Delivered three elements per pallet and comprising four plants per metre, Instant Hedge Elements provide a refined and professional finish with immediate results.
Available in an extensive selection of species, they offer one of the most effective ways to create established structure, privacy and character within the landscape.
Pre-Formed Hedges
The traditional choice for an established hedge.

Pre-Formed Hedges consist of mature individual plants that have been field-grown and carefully clipped into formal shapes over a number of years.
Available in heights exceeding 400cm in selected species, these plants are positioned side by side to create an immediate hedge effect. The result is a hedge with immediate maturity and impact from the moment of planting, delivered with the scale and presence that only mature plants can provide.

Popular species include Yew (Taxus baccata), Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus), Beech (Fagus sylvatica), Copper Beech (Fagus sylvatica f. purpurea), Holly (Ilex aquifolium), Privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium), Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica) and Thuja (Thuja occidentalis). A traditional choice for clients seeking the character and permanence of a mature hedge from the moment of planting, Pre-Formed Hedges provide immediate structure and presence.

Frequently Asked Questions
We supply mature single hedge plants, instant hedging (field-grown plants clipped into formal hedge shapes, from 80cm to 250cm tall), and instant hedging elements (precision-grown metre-long sections containing four plants each, grown for six years on average). Whether you want an instant solution or younger plants that mature over time, we can help.
Due to logistics and the cost of delivery, we are unable to supply less than 20 metres of hedging, unless combined with other plants into a larger order. Contact us to discuss your requirements — you will speak directly to a hedging expert who can offer practical advice.
The best time to plant a hedge is during the dormant season — typically late October to late April. Planting during dormancy requires minimal watering and maintenance, allowing roots to establish before the growing season resumes. Potted stock is available year-round for species that cannot be lifted during the growing season.
Popular species include Yew (Taxus baccata) — the classic British evergreen, Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) — a fantastic deciduous option, and Beech (Fagus sylvatica) which retains its brown leaves through winter. We also supply Copper Beech, Holly, Privet, Portuguese Laurel, Thuja, and many more. Over 29 varieties are available as instant hedging elements.
Rootball plants are typically available November to April and are the traditional choice for winter planting. Potted stock is available year-round and may be preferable when you need deciduous species like Beech or Hornbeam during spring or summer. We can advise on the best option for your situation and timing.
