Topiary Portuguese Laurel (Prunus lusitanica ‘Angustifolia’) is a distinguished evergreen for formal topiary, offering glossy, dark green foliage on distinctive dark red stems. The small, neat leaves produce an excellent surface finish when clipped into formal shapes — from domes and cones to lollipop standards and multi-ball specimens.

Portuguese Laurel responds well to regular clipping, producing a dense, refined surface. The combination of dark green foliage and red stems gives topiary pieces a richness and depth of colour that sets them apart from other evergreen topiary species. In early summer, fragrant white flowers may appear on less tightly clipped specimens.

Fully hardy throughout the UK, Portuguese Laurel thrives in most soil types including chalk and clay. It performs well in sun or partial shade and handles coastal and urban conditions.
