The Parasol London Plane is a trained specimen of Platanus x hispanica, shaped into a broad, flat-topped parasol canopy on a clear stem. The London Plane is one of the world's great urban trees — famously lining the streets of London, Paris, and New York — and its vigour, resilience, and handsome foliage make it superbly suited to parasol training.

The large, palmately lobed leaves (resembling a maple) emerge bright green in spring, forming a dense, shade-giving canopy through summer. The bark is one of the most attractive features — it sheds in irregular patches to reveal a mosaic of cream, olive-green, and grey beneath, creating a camouflage-like pattern on the trunk and branches that provides year-round interest.

Platanus x hispanica is extraordinarily tolerant of urban pollution, compacted soils, hard pruning, and a wide range of growing conditions. It thrives in full sun and most soil types. The parasol form contains its naturally vigorous growth into a structured, manageable canopy, making it ideal for creating shaded entertaining areas, framing large gardens, or lining driveways where a bold, architectural canopy is required.
