View Stock & PricesThe Box Head Persian Ironwood is a formally trained specimen of Parrotia persica, shaped into a dense, clipped cube on a clear stem. This is an exceptional choice for a box head tree with outstanding four-season interest — particularly its extraordinary autumn colour display.
The foliage emerges with coppery-bronze tones in spring, matures to a rich, glossy green through summer, then ignites in autumn with a spectacular progression from golden-yellow through fiery orange and crimson to deep purple. In late winter, clusters of small, spidery red flowers appear on bare branches. The bark develops an attractive mottled, flaking pattern with age.
Parrotia persica prefers well-drained, lime-free soil and full sun for the richest autumn colour. It is hardy, generally pest-free, and makes an outstanding specimen for formal gardens.
