Every piece of our outstanding bespoke topiary has been carefully crafted and hand clipped over a period of years, sometime even decades, to give it a special shape and unique identity.

And it is not just what’s above ground that is special. Each plant and root system has been carefully managed with lifting and moving to a final destination in mind - regularly undercut to ensure a tight, fibrous root-ball that will lead to successful transplanting every time.

As you will see from our gallery pages, there are a large assortment of individual sizes and shapes available. We can also offer more popular shaped topiary, such as balls, low domes, beehives and cloud pruned. And if you have something rare or particularly special in mind, we won’t rest until we find it!

It is important to take into account if you have the right soil type for the species of topiary you are considering. Yew (Taxus) and Beech (Fagus sylvatica) benefit from sympathetic placing if your soil is wet or heavy clay. Or we can offer an assortment of hornbeam (Carpinus betulus) topiary that will happily tolerate less well-drained conditions..

Bespoke Topiary Specimens

The finest gardens deserve the finest plants. For something extra special, spectacular pieces of mature, bespoke topiary cannot be beaten. Whether it be Beech, Hornbeam, Yew or Box, Hedgeworx can supply a simply outstanding selection of the finest hand-grown plants.

Although fashions and trends come and go, specimen topiary has been a mainstay of gardens and estates across the nation for hundreds of years. Many of the great gardens of Britain are renowned for their incredible displays of unique topiary plants. A piece of bespoke specimen topiary should reflect one’s character, or the character of one’s property. Hedgeworx can offer classic and contemporary styles, in a range of sizes and shapes that must be seen to be believed.

Bespoke Yew Topiary

Taxus baccata (Yew) has long been the king of topiary. With fine needles and a compact dense growth habit, Yew can be crafted and trained into a myriad of different shapes and styles. The evergreen foliage also offers structure and backdrop in the winter months, when other plants may be looking less than perfect, or have receded entirely. For crisp lines and sharp edges in formal areas, Yew is certainly the best choice for topiary.

Bespoke Beech Topiary

Fagus sylvatica (Beech) topiary has seen a resurgence in use as a topiary plant in recent years. Beech topiary is often used in less formal situations, as backdrop planting and for structure within cottage gardens and more rural areas. Beech works well where the crispness and dark green colour of Yew may be too much. Our Fagus topiary is unique, and every piece has been hand cut over several years, giving a special shape and identity to each plant.

Both Yew and Beech prefer free draining soil. Neither species will tolerate waterlogging or poor drainage. When you buy a piece of mature bespoke topiary, most of the hard work of creating the special piece has already been done over the number of years in production on the nursery. The plants will simply need clipping, irrigating and perhaps feeding to maintain them in the best possible condition..

If you are looking for something a little unusual or simply don't want the more popular shapes such as domes, pyramids or balls, our bespoke topiary could be just what you're looking for.
