Individual Mature Hedge Plants

Hedgeworx offers an unrivalled selection of individual hedging plants. These range in size from under one metre tall up to and above five metres tall and everything in between.

Root Balled Stock

We supply traditional root-balled hedge stock between autumn and spring, when the plants can be lifted from the ground with root-balls. Root-balled plants offer fantastic quality, as a plant is never happier and growing better than when it is in the ground. The exact timings of the lifting season vary from year to year, as the plants need the weather to be cold enough to be fully dormant before they can be lifted. Likewise, the end of the spring planting season is governed by the rising temperatures and the rising of the sap. Some species much prefer field-grown conditions, as opposed to being grown in pots. This is especially true of Taxus baccata (Yew). Clever root system management allows us to lift and supply Taxus baccata with root-balls from September to May, sometimes even longer if conditions allow.

Root Balled Stock Available:

Buxus sempervirens (Box)

Carpinus betulus (Hornbeam)

Fagus sylvatica (Beech)

Fagus sylvatica ‘Atropurpurea’ (Copper Beech)

Ilex spp. (Holly)

Ligustrum (Privet)

Prunus laurocerasus ‘Rotundifolia’ (Cherry Laurel)

Prunus lusitanica ‘Angustifolia’ (Portuguese Laurel)

Thuja plicata spp. (Western Red Cedar)

Container Grown Mature Plants

We also offer a broad range of container grown mature hedging plants in an ever-increasing range of sizes, available for supply in the summer months. The increasing range has been driven by demand from our clients for year-round availability of hedging material. This is a particular benefit to our clients in the design and landscaping trades, as it helps with completing projects where deadlines fall outside of the root-ball season. The range of hedge species now available in container includes:

Acer campestre (Field Maple)

Carpinus betulus (Hornbeam)

Crataegus monogyna (Hawthorn)

Fagus sylvatica (Beech)

Fagus sylvatica ‘Atropurpurea’ (Copper Beech)
